THE DAY WE LOST HIM

The Grand Prix of San Marino had a rough start. Benetton's car, driven by Jyrki Järvilehto, stood at the start and Pedro Lamy, who was driving a Lotus-Mugen-Honda car, hit him. Pieces of both cars went flying and the safety car went into the track.
Soon after, the race resumes with Schumacher and Senna on the top two positions. Everything was fine, until Ayrton Senna's car was in the Tamburello curve and suddenly it goes out of the track, over 200 km/h, crashing into the barriers. The red flag began to toss and medical car was to attend the Brazilian driver, who raced for Williams that season.
Senna was airlifted to a hospital in Bologna, where he was given the following cares. Forty minutes later, the race was restarted from the grid and won by Michael Schumacher with a Benetton-Ford car.
That was the first time a victory was not celebrated with champagne.
Just after 18:30 hrs., Ayrton Senna's death was announced, but the official death time was set at 14:17, time of impact. Officially, Senna, never recovered from the traumatic brain injury he suffered because of a piece of the car that pierced his helmet.
