Lewis Hamilton was the fastest driver in the first two free practice sessions of the Chinese Grand Prix, with times of 1: 39.033 and 1: 37.219 ; followed closely in both sessions by Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel in the morning, and in the afternoon by Kimi Räikkönen.

Beyond the top positions occupied by Mercedes' pilots, followed by the Ferrari drivers, the cold asphalt caused some problems in the rest of the pilots, who with medium pneumatics, had outputs of the track; including Sainz and Palmer, who replaced Grosjean to test the car from Lotus, had spins around almost at the same time.

Fernando Alonso finished in a good position, taking the results gotten in Malaysia as a reference. The McLaren team is satisfied with the 17th Alonso's position; he was before Nico Hülkenberg and after Sergio Perez, Sahara Force India drivers.

Carlos Sainz was ranked 8th, beating Max Verstappen. Roberto Merhi from Manor, was in last place.

Hamilton is in the top again.

Alonso left a good impression to be in 12th place, completing over 20 laps, 2 and a half seconds time from Hamilton.

Carlos Sainz had some problems, so he spent the entire session to try different aerodynamic solutions; It was at position 15th.

Roberto Merhi overtook his teammate Will Stevens for a second and a half, being in the penultimate position.
