First call for Hamilton

18 October 2017  05:52 PM

For Hamilton, Formula 1 USA Grand Prix represents his first chance to conquer Drivers’ World Championship 2017 of the top category in motor racing. The British driver from Mercedes is leading the charts with 306 points and a 59-unit advantage over the German from Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel, and 72 points gap between him and his Finish teammate at Silver Arrows, Valtteri Bottas, when there are still 100 points to give away. Vettel and Bottas are the only drivers now on the current grid keeping the mathematical chances on the battle against Hamilton, for the world title. Lewis needs to add 16 points more than Vettel and three more over Bottas in order to ensure the Crown at the Circuit of the Americas, if Hamilton expects to achieve it, he needs to win and Vettel would have to finish in sixth place; one position behind or finish in second position as the German from Ferrari reach the checkered flag in the ninth position or lower. The options for Bottas are low, for he needs to add four more points over his teammate in Austin, in case he wishes to pursue his aims. In the event that Lewis Hamilton doesn’t get USA World Championship, he would have another chance at the Formula 1 Gran Premio de México that will be held from October 27 to October 29 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The British driver from Mercedes makes it to Austin with a lucky strike of four victories and 118 points on the last five races, while Vettel did two drop-out in the year, with a 45 units accumulated in the same period. Vettel lead the World Championship since the very first day, in Australia, until the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix, date 13 of the calendar. Hamilton won seasons 2008 (McLaren), 2014 and 2015 (Mercedes) and is sharing the three-time world champion’s list along with Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet and Ayrton Senna. Lewis aims to get his fourth title, which would enable him to tie Vettel and the French, Alain Prost. Only the five-time world champion, from Argentina, Juan Manuel Fangio and the German, seven-time winner of the queen category, Michael Schumacher, are positions ahead. USA is one of the most positive tests for Hamilton, in which he added five victories and two pole positions, for a total of 122 points. On the other hand, Vettel owns one victory in the Circuit of the Americas, achieved in 2013 edition as a part of Red Bull team by then, besides two poles and 77 units on six of his participations in the USA Grand Prix. Ferrari is now the most victorious team in Formula 1 USA Grand Prix, reaching its 39th edition but never having gotten any of them, at the Austin Circuit, which has been part of the calendar since 2012. Mercedes is also about to win its fourth consecutive Builders’ World Championship in Austin, just to equal Red Bull in fifth place on the list of teams with the biggest number of titles in Formula 1.
