Battle of five.

28 September 2017  03:45 PM

There is a remaining battle for 2017 World Drivers’ Championship between five drivers, towards last edition of Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, from team Mercedes; Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen, from Ferrari; and Daniel Ricciardo, from Red Bull, are the drivers with the biggest mathematical chances to be crowned in the current season. The British driver, Hamilton, is the current leader on the chart with 263 points, with an advantage of 28 units over the German, Vettel his closest competitor. Hamilton, 2016 Formula 1 Gran Premio de México winner, has accumulated seven victories in the year (China, Spain, Canada, Britain, Belgium, Italy and Singapore); and has led the title since the race held in Monza. Lewis faces Sepang International Circuit, layout in which he’s got the pole position in four of the last five editions (2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016), and having only got the victory in 2014. The British greatest rival for the crown, would be Vettel, the German owns four victories during the season and has led the World Championship since its beginning until Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix. Sebastian is the top winner in Malaysia, with four victories (2010, 2011, 2013 and 2015), one more than his countryman Michael Schumacher and the Spanish, Fernando Alonso. As for the poles in Sepang, Vettel adds two, in 2011 and 2013 respectively. The Finnish Valtteri Bottas, Hamilton’s teammate at Silver Arrows, has scored his first F1 victories (Russia and Austria), being the third on the battle for the title with 212points and only 23 away, from Vettel. Bottas has got his best results in Sepang during his five participations, having finished in the fifth position twice, all of them racing for team Williams. Daniel Ricciardo, form Red Bull, is in the fourth place of the classification with 162 units. The Australian driver from Red Bull is also in the 2017 winning list with his victory got in Azerbaijan. Ricciardo makes it to the Malaysian layout for the weekend, the same place from he finished with the first-place trophy in his hands last year. The fifth candidate for the World crown is Kimi Räikkönen, Ferrari’s Finnish driver owns 138 points in his personal score, 125 units behind Hamilton but there are still 150 points on the line, so in case of not scoring next weekend in Malaysia, we would be discarded from the battle for the Crown. Thanks to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen dropout in Singapore, he is now left out of the fight for the World Championship. The Dutch is in the sixth position in the general classification with 68 points, tied with the Mexican from Force India, Sergio Perez. Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix held its first edition in 1999 and will cease to form part of 2018 calendar. Ferrari is the top winning team in Sepang International Circuit, with 7 triumphs (1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2015).
