02 June 2015  10:39 PM

Asphalting of first of the three layers on the layout of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, began last weekend, two weeks ahead of the scheduled work.

After performing several tests at the zone known as “The Stadium”, comprising curves 4, 5 and 6, the placement of the 5cm thick base course began.

It is also worth recalling that in order to asphalt the 4.3 kilometers of layout, an asphalt plant with a capacity of 250 tons of mix per hour, was installed at the complex “Moisés Solana”, which will asphalt a total of 19,500 m3 including escape routes, track and paddock.

This plant will efficient the asphalting on the track having a greater quality control in aggregate and in the final product. The process managers established the zone comprising curves 1, 2 and 3 as the ideal place for the plant placement, the collection of materials and the distribution of the mixture to all the circuit.

Asphalting process begins with the first layer, named Base course. This is the base for the drainage system, “pianos” or “sinks” installation. Later, a 2cms layer (Binder Course) is placed, for a last layer of 3cm (Wearing Course) or bearing layer is placed by the end of July.

Similarly, in the same area of the Stadium began the asphalting of the “Run Offs” or escape routes, which takes only 2 of the 3 layers (Base Course and Wearing Course).

It is estimated that asphalting works will continue over the next 2 months to the “s” zone and the rest of the track, once the stadium zone is completed.

Currently, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez remodeling works are in full and on time, with a 70% of progress of the main building or pit building that will house the 33 pits and the control tower, a 60% in the Media Center with a capacity for 470 journalists and a 30% in nursing, which will include intensive care, X-rays, burns unit showers and doping areas.
