The final stretch to the title just began.

13 September 2017  04:48 PM

In Singapore, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel have just begun the final stretch to the 2017 Formula 1 World Championship. With 238 points and a 3-point advantage over his closest follower, the British driver from Mercedes, makes it to the night-time appointment, a test he has already conquered twice (2009 and 2014). Vettel, Ferraris’ German driver, who lost the World leadership during the last race in Italy, accumulates four triumphs got in the Asian layout (2011, 2012, 2013 y 2015). Singapore is the 14th date of the calendar, in which Formula 1 Gran Premio de México stands out as the stop number 18 that will be raced from October 27 to October 29 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. For Hamilton, finishing the European season in the first position means no guarantee of winning the world scepter; as he has ascertained twice before. In 2007, during his F1 debut season, Hamilton left Europe as a general leader, with 97 points ahead from his teammate in McLaren, the Spanish Fernando Alonso (95) and from the Finnish Kimi Räikkönen (84), who closed winning in China and Brazil, and being crowned with 1-point advantage over Working teams’ pair. At that time, Singapore had not been included in F1 calendar. Last season, Lewis arrived to Singapore with 250 units, two more than his teammate from German, Nico Rosberg. In spite of his victories in USA, Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi, accompanied by Nico in all of them, the engine break experienced by Hamilton in Malaysia prejudiced him turning into the runner-up with five points below Rosberg. Meanwhile, for Vettel Singapore’s date was vital for his recovery in two of the four seasons, in which he proclaimed himself world monarch. In 2010, with all reflectors on Hamilton, Alonso and Vettel’s Red Bull partner, Mark Webber, the German was in the fourth position of the chart prior to the race in Singapore, where he finished second; and then he got the victory in three of the fourth last dates conquering that way, his first title. In 2012, the story was very similar, prior to the night-time competition, Vettel was third in general, below Räikkönen and Alonso as leader. In Singapore, Sebastian began a streak of triumphs that kept going in Japan, South Korea and India, in addition to his podiums in Abu Dhabi and USA; while Alonso got no more victories and finally gave up the crown to the German for three points. One thing in Vettel’s favor is that he is the only driver to score points during the previous nine editions in Singapore, and has never finished below the fifth position. Nowadays, besides Hamilton and Vettel, there are still math possibilities for Valtteri Bottas, Hamilton partner in Mercedes (197 points); Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo (144); Kimi Räikkönen (138) and Max Verstappen, from Red Bull (68) to get the title. The coin has been thrown and there is nothing decided in favor of any of the competitors for the 2017 World Championship yet. The Formula 1 Gran Premio de México could be critical to tip the scales on the fight for the crown, which is why you can’t miss the F1esta that will take place from October 27 to October 29 in the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
