The
FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE MÉXICO 2017TM, committed to helping and encouraging Mexican talent, keeps up with its mission of promoting how well, things are made in Mexico by supporting team
UNAM Motorsports, which just returned to the country after having been competing in Europe against teams from all over the world.
Last July, representatives of the university team travelled to Italy, Austria and Germany along with its racing car against other students within Formula Student categories, such competitions emulate a large scale
Formula 1® Grand Prix; and serve to strengthen knowledge and learning in the competitors, for both the sport and automotive industry.
The opportunity to participate in that kind of competitions, and the experience achieved during such journey have exceeded UNAM Motorsports members’ expectations, therefore showing that Mexico is a country of great talent and with so much to offer. The Mexican team, comprised by Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM)’s students from different fields, returned to Mexico after being transformed thanks to such experience, according to the students.
It fills us with pride, to know that those kids honored Mexico’s name during their staying in Europe, but above all we are really glad to have them back with all that positive feedback and enthusiasm for improving their project and so, keeping on showing all their capacity and talent”, said Diego Pérez Palacios, Commercial Manager of FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE MÉXICO™.
The very members of university team were responsible of designing, building and developing their car. However, their experience was fortified after having received direct feedback about their prototype, which allowed the students to appreciate their technological and design improvements in order to conduct the corresponding modifications for the following season.
The outstanding kids took with them all kind of learning from the different countries they visited, based on the feedback received, judges’ theoretical level as well as the enthusiasm and good atmosphere among teams. They have perfected their work mode and developed a greater understanding of advances on procedures and materials used.
Mexican potential was reflected in front of the best students in the world. Now, there are just some technological adjustments to be made and transmit that knowledge to generations to come, both general knowledge from other universities and UNAM Motorsports’ knowledge, which has been competing internationally and for the first time in Europe, for its seventh generation.
