Fernando Alonso believes his partner Jenson Button got encouraging results regarding reliability and data collection at the Australian GP. He knows Malaysian Grand Prix will be difficult, but he is mentally prepared to perform well. Alonso is a three-time Grand Prix winner in: 2005, 2007 and 2012.
Jenson Button says Malaysia implies a difficult step on his learning process, but just as Alonso, he stays positive and trusting in his team work. He really enjoys the Sepang International Circuit’s high speed turns and the challenge it represents. Jenson won Malaysia Grand Prix in 2009.
Eric Boullier, Racing Director, stated Malaysia will be a completely different challenge from Melbourne because the extreme heat and humidity will make it more difficult to find good balance in the car. Nevertheless he trusts in the car usability and knows they will exhibit a great performance.
Yasuhisa Arai, Honda Motor Racing chief, acknowledges Malaysia will affect the power unit with its weather temperatures and high humidity. But he claims having evolved the control data in order to adjust them to the Sepang International Circuit.
McLaren-Honda is taking short but firm steps, they recognize they are doing well overall and are aware that grid positions are not the most important for that matter. What matters now is the ongoing teamwork in the car development and the mileage accumulation.
