Lewis Hamilton, two-time Formula One World Champion, has been nominated for the 2015 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award alongside fellow sportsmen Novak Djokovic, Rory McIlroy and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Hamilton, 30, who last season won his second F1 world title after 2008 with McLaren, won last weekend in Shanghai starting from the pole, leading the race from start to finish and marking the fastest lap, he was on the top of all the rankings.

The British pilot for Mercedes AMG Petronas, leaders now the FORMULA ONE World Championship 2015 with 68 points, and is the favorite one to win the Bahrain Grand Prix to dispute this weekend in Sakhir Circuit. He won’t be able to be on the Awards Ceremony, as he traveled to the Arabic country.

But Hamilton is not the only nominee; also Mercedes AMG Petronas is expecting to win the Laureus World Team Of The Year Award. The German tea is sharing nomination with Real Madrid Football Team, Switzerland Davis Coup Team, San Antonio Spurs, among others.

Formula One is well represented this year, as the Australian Driver for Red Bull, Daniel Ricciardo, got the nomination to the Laureus Breakthrough Of The Year Award, with the Colombian soccer player James Rodriguez, the American Alpine Skier Mikaela Shiffrin, among others. This prize was given to Lewis Hamilton in 2008.

Last year, the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award was for Sebastian Vettel.

The Laureus Awards, considered as the “Oscars” of sports, will be celebrated this Wednesday April 15th in Shangái, China, and presented by the British actor Benedict Cumberbatch.
